Intricately carved columns are everywhere all awaiting their original location if it can be found. Time has damaged a lot of the stonework as have earthquakes and the peoples following the Romans as stone was a precious commodity for buildings etc it was often removed from existing areas and re used elsewhere. The stonework always amazes us as it is lovingly carved and always in scale for the object it matches, very clever indeed.
