The walk along the edges of the canal is beautiful. Everywhere you look it is just amazing, the stonework, fountains, gardens and views of the chateau and the mature groves of trees are a delight. The canal involved altering the course of the river which flowed across the grounds and it is so cleverly done you do not realize there is a river until you go to each end of the canal and see where it enters under the ground and where it exits over a shallow spill way at the other end. The engineering required for this is amazing and to think it was designed by young men in their twenties.
