I had a meltdown...it was bound to happen at some point. But I am good now.
We have been on the road for 4 months and it's our first Christmas in the 22 years of our son’s life that we have not spent it together and we landed in Singapore. What is significant about Singapore?
Well, 28 years ago about this time of year we had finished 4 months of teaching school in Fiji, we were feeling a wee bit homesick so contrary to our plans, we made our way to Jakarta to spend Christmas with friends who were there on sabbatical. I recall a 'moment’ in the Singapore airport, watching ‘What a Wonderful World’ on a monitor and feeling overwhelmed with sentiment, teary-eyed and lonely. To add to this nostalgic connection with Christmas and Singapore, we are in a city where 8 years ago we returned to say goodbye to a dear friend who was terminally ill.
So, feeling tender around Christmas and Singapore, we arrived to find out about the tragic death of the daughter of a friend who we’d not been in contact with for a number of years. Combine that with the Connecticut horror and we have a recipe for a meltdown. After a couple of Skype calls home, without warning I began releasing all this sadness with endless tears while Jim sat helplessly in disbelief and awe. Thankfully, we were in the comfort of a friend’s home and I was able to feel safe and at ease.
I could also blame it on the pending 21.12,12 ‘end’ however I like to think of it as a universal transitioning to a new level of consciousness – one of compassion and peace.
Whew…
Our visit in Singapore was quick and our hosts were so gracious; they facilitated some real Singapore experiences including:
A short 2 days here and we are on to Cambodia for three and a half weeks.
Enjoy this festive season wrapped in the warmth of loved ones both near and far!

Our visit in Singapore was quick and our hosts were so gracious; they facilitated some real Singapore experiences including:
- A meal at the Hawker stalls ordered with local advice on the best stalls and foods and it was great and a fun experience
- A Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel Long Bar while munching on peanuts and tossing them on the floor
- Finding our way on the MRT subway. We felt like aliens from another planet trying to figure out something incredibly simple. When we asked two young men they gave us a most curious look. Remember, we don't have subways in Halifax.
- Seeing the glorious Christmas decorations on Orchard St.
- Sleeping in LM’s amazingly comfortable bed! Thanks LM.

Rick What is Peter doing there??!!!!
Wendy Meh, Jim's good at that meltdown stuff. Remember when Dad died and we were all at the cottage? While Mom was lying in bed, crying, and I was pretending not to hear, Jim was the one to crawl into her bed and comfort her. He's got some skills, that bye.
Angie Donna You've triumphed over your meltdown. You look as gorgeous on the outside as you are on the inside. Peace. Angie
