Everywhere we go we see places that one of the Lord of the Rings movies was filmed in...we exclaim, appreciate and dream of seeing little hobbits or riding horses or something magical. Last night (tonight back home in Canada), the premiere red carpet event of the opening of the Hobbit happened in Wellington - just across the strait from where we are. We could feel the buzz. We will be in Wellington on Saturday and hopefully get to see some of the leftover effect.
I read an October 7, 2012 article in the New York Times by Brookes Barnes and Michael Cieply after they visited New Zealand and some of the Hobbit film locations. They describe about NZ:
"the hill is perfect - steep, shaggy and as green as a radioactive shamrock, like the matching hills around it. The sheep seem pretty idyllic themselves: polite little nibblers who only sometimes block the road".
Our experience completely! They also declare, "to the surprise of almost everyone, (LOTR) took possession of an entire country". It is a bit of a travellers' obsession seeing the spots of where filming took place and reveling experiencing the beauty depicted in these fabulous movies.
We have watched the trilogy since being here and can hardly wait to see The Hobbit!
A teaser for upcoming postings...Jim lost 'his precious'...sort of. What does that mean? You will have to wait to hear about this.

Sue Walker NO photos, hopefully his precious? was NOT his camera? Thinking about you guys as always! Love Sue xo
Wendy Love the 'radioactive shamrock.' Jim has so much 'precious' he can afford to lose a tonne or two.
Rick Hmmm...putting teasers out there; readership must be down. Definitely hoping that Jim's "precious" isn't his camera or laptop cause I'm really looking forward to seeing more of those spectacular LOTR countryside shots. Waiting with baited breath...
Katharine Weinmann Always good to hear from you and your adventures. So let's see, you've inspired a trip to South America and Macchu Pichu, and now New Zealand. Wait, we've already got the pictures posted on the bulletin board in our office to get us there! Soon!
Sherida I cant believe you are in the Realm of Gondor! lol I read the LOTR back in Grade 12 and have watched the movies too many times! So glad you and Jim are having the time of your lives! my guess for jims precious, would it be a piece of camera gear? Take care and miss you lots!
