28th March
Free Day so I went to the Samana day spa for 4 hours. Chocolate body wrap, deep tissue massage, jacuzzi, steam and dry sauna. Wow did I feel relaxed. Next stop was lunch Nuna Raymi. Next stop hair dresser and manicure. Shopping and visited Catedral Del Cusco built in 1534 which was absolutely amazing. The silver altars and gold leaf altarpieces and chapels
were remarkable. There were paintings over 6 metres high and 5 metres wide.
The most spectacular painting was of the last supper by Cusco Master Don Marcos Zapata. This painting is over 6 metres high and 5.67 metres wide. The most remarkable element is the representation of the piscal lamb, instead of lamb the artist drew an image of a wild chinchilla (Vizvacha) because in Andean ideology the Vizcacha is the guardian of the Lakes and Secret Mountains. Then off to Templo De La Compania Jesus which was of colonial style. Had a large courtyard in the middle with a water fountain. Then to Capilla De San Ignacio De Loyola. There was a lot of gold leaf on the altarpieces and a very nice little church. Back to hotel for a rest.
Went to Paddys Irish Pub for tea with Fabi and Danny. Then to another bar for a game of darts then to Africa Mama which is a night club.
29th March
Went down to the main Plaza then up to Plaza San Francisco where I had a guided tour of the San Francisco Church. The paintings were large and dated back to the 1700's. It was amazing. Then off to the Choco Museo. This museo is on the first floor and had beautiful views of Plaza Regocijo. Had some free tastings. Then off to the markets. There was a large street parade with dancing and music
