Saturday 26th
Early wake up call at 5.30, first job was rolling our swags. Then breakfast - I don't think I'm made for this sort of 'au naturel' outdoor thing, I like the home comfort but on the plus side, We are having an amazing experience and had plenty of time to spot loads of shooting stars and the Milky Way spilling out across the sky - amazing!! We are now off to The National Park to see Kata Tjuta & Uluru ticket price 25 aus dollars but this was in with our tour. Once at the park we done a trek through Kata Tjuta which took a long 3 hours and rough climbing over rocks etc. (flys trying to get up my nose, ears and eyes I'm afraid the fly net had to go on, I have fought with them too long)
On to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre where we learned about Dreamtime and about Uluru being sacred and in places photos can not be taken. We signed a petition to have the Ulluru climb closed. The Ananga people want this closed, the climb is against their wishes. Although sadly 36 people have died doing this climb the tourist board will not close it as they say it will stop tourists, they think tourists only go to climb. Some visitors also believe if you take a piece of rock or climb, bad things will happen. There is actual letters from people who believe that bad luck was their doing from climbing or taking pieces of the rock and have sent a letter to the museum enclosing the piece of rock they took. (40 people need to die before they will reconsider closing it). When a death happens from the climb on Ananga land the people believe it to be their fault.
We had our picnic lunch at Uluru sharing with the fly's, then went on a Mala walk (Ulluru) for a small hike (1.5 hours) and looked in various caves. My feet are throbbing.
Back at Uluru for sunset, and witnessed the rock changing colours. All the tourist buses turned up and it was really busy, for dinner we had chicken and veg curry with rice and noodles which was cooked by Matt whilst watching sunset over Uluru.
Tonight Uluru camp site which has showers and toilets yippee!! Whilst on our way the songs blasted and the lights on the bus flashed and when we turned into camp again he swerved a few times and then drove around in a few circles a few times whilst everybody on the bus sung and clapped before coming to a stop. We have now had a shower (cool eh)! and are now sat around the camp fire again having a few beers.
We are looking forward to a night in a bed Tomorrow night.
I have attached a photo of people doing the climb which the Ananga people want closing.
