China Town-Chattachuk Market -and Haggling Tuk Tuk drivers down
I'm going to start by mentioning how Thai people must think we landed from planet Stupid, These drivers try in everyway to try and rip you off. I can understand overcharging slightly but these greedy tuk tuk drivers take the michael. Trying to over charge by quadruple the actual price... Its not on. Rant over until my next part about the train station trip.
We arrive at China town at night, after kind of agreeing a slightly overpriced Tuk Tuk. Traffic everywhere, China Town is located in one of the oldest parts of Bangkok, the road is lit up with all kinds of signs, in Chinese of course. Again here the street sides are seething with street vendors selling all kinds of food. Jade and I cant understand a single thing on any of the boards (we later read our lonely planet guide which warns that there are no roman transcript here and it is not geared for tourists), it was an experience none of less. With us both quite peckish we sit down at one of the roadside vendors, cars and buses rushing by us, we choose a soup, not having an absolute clue what it is or whats in it. Jade and I are wondering what we are letting ourselves in for...The old Chinese lady brings our food over, we both look into the terracotta bowl to see what is instore for us . Its smell delicious, It looks some what as good as it smells , so here it goes first spoonful. It's blinking delicious, our faces light up because we have come across yet another cheap and delicious treat , the soup itself contains quails egg, onions , thick brown piquant sauce, garlic and mmmmm not too sure so I ask the lady serving , she doesnt have a clue what I am on about. a couple behind say they will translate, so I asked what it was , they replied with big grins on their faces ... Pigs Stomach! We looked at each other, said "what the heck" and carried on eating anyway as it was so delicious.
Chatuchuk Market-The worlds Largest market (32 acres)- and Siam square
Chatuchuk market, the worlds largest market, we cannot believe the size of it! Stalls selling everything you can imagine and to as far as the eye can see. It is so hot and crowded. As we scramble through the crowds we go off the beaten track of this vast Market and come accross an animal market, selling all kinds of strange creatures from snakes to squirrels, Rabbits to multi coloured fish. It is absolutely crazy. We stumble across a c*** fight by taking a wrong turn in this maze of a market, as we start to near the end of the pet market we come across a food stall selling these strangely coloured fried wonton skewers... we buy some, only to find out they are filled with delicious quail eggs and covered in a spicy chilli sauce. This treat is now top of our favourite snacks list, Jade and I walk again around the market and decide to head on to the sky train into the main city of Bangkok.
Next Stop Siam Square
We disembark the skytrain right into the busy Siam Square , It seems to be the shopping and entertainment part of the city, a far cry from the old Bangkok we have been used to, what with the towering sky scrapers hanging over us. Jade and I head to the Mall which is directly off the sky train station. It is a tremendous sized building , we enter the mall and instantly lose our bearings, walking around there are many shops from gucci to armani all designer , The entrance has Lambourghini's and lotus's for sale too. Now venturing down the escalators and we both look at each other like excited kids in a sweet shop... The food mall, wowsers what a sight, all kinds of delicacies and stalls selling weird and wonderful foods. We leave the mall and head back to Khao San Road
