After 3 flights,4 Aeroplane Gastronomic delights, a bus and a joyful taxi ride, Jade and I arrive at Cebu Guest house in the heart of the bustling CEBU CITY. First things first we get our heads down for the night as we are bloody shattered. I wake up in anticipation with jade still asleep, I cannot wait to find out what Cebu City has to offer. Jade is up and ready and we're now waiting for a jeepney (an american jeep that were left after the 2nd ww ) we hop on ,a little bit nervous and a little bit excited...what a drama this turned out to be. We didnt have a clue where or how to get off but we jumped out in a not so desirable area, but this was quickly rectified after a short taxi ride. Jade had asked me if we needed our Rain macs before we left I had said no , And oh boy the heavens opened up! The smells, the City and the people; all could be descibed as "colourful" to say the least.
We have been so excited and hungry that we cannot wait to try out what Philippino culinary wonders Cebu City has to offer. We sit down in a mall where all the fillipinas are eating, which is a sure bet to be a good sign we are going to get some superb dishes. We get our food and sit among the fillapinas, jade and I the only two westerners in sight. The food was "masarap" , delicious in tagalog. Now with our bellies qtr full we make our next jeepney trip (easier journey as we our now fully qualified jeepney voyagers). We head to the oldest street in the philippines aptly named "Colon street", bit of a s*** name if you ask me! The smell is not that far off a colon either, the heat mixed with 1000s of people, stalls selling every thing you can imagine .. and i mean everything: lizards to dvds, women, fish. You name it Cebu City sells it. With the heat beating down on us this city is loud and lively. It is so much to take in but fun and so inspiring. What a Culture it is to observe, such proud people; taking as much care for their "business" as they do for each other, even when their business is a metre squared piece of pavement.
As much as we seemed as an amusement,The Fillapinas seemed very interested in us "aliens" especially Jade with her golden lucious mane .To sum up Cebu City it is a City that will shock you and astound you and leave you with many fantastic talking points but if if i am completely honest with I cannot wait to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy beach life and see what the fillipina islanders have to offer in Bohol and Panglao Island.
