Our place did a corking breakfast (finishing way too early for a lazy git like me, at 9:30am!), after which we headed out to see the town in daylight & grabbed a decent cup of coffee at one of the multitude of cafes/coffee shops. This place has restaurant, after bar, after cafe, after travel agency. So the whole place is orientated towards tourists, but still manages to somehow maintain a strong Guatemalan character & culture with a number of the locals wearing traditional dress & with a volcano towering over the place. How such a beautiful town can exist so close to the sh1t hole that is the capital (Guatemala City), I've no idea. Anyway, I'd still not read the Lonely Planet for Guatemala, so decided to spend some of the day doing that, coupled with sorting out my rucksack & daysack. I'd not done this for about 2 months & they were in complete disarray, so took me a good hour or so. Although I'm not exactly sure how 2 smallish bags took me that long to sort out. No wonder all my crap in the flat took me so long to sort out! Rach had spent the day reading & relaxing & when I eventually finished my chores, we got ready whilst waiting to hear from the girls. At 8pm, they sent us through the name of a restaurant & we headed off there to meet them. They'd chosen this place as it was serving a Swiss 'racklette' (melted cheese, ham, pickles, babycorn & boiled potatoes). I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would & complimented the Swiss-French owner & chef when he came out to speak to the girls (Swiss-German). We nipped round to the Irish bar for a beer or two afterwards & said our goodbyes to the girls (for about the 3rd time!), wishing them safe travels & agreeing we'll get together in one of our home countries soon.
