Another gorgeous breakfast with the really sweet Columbian couple that owned the place, along with a couple of Canadians (who'd turned up late last night), who gave us a few pointers of places to go in Central America. We then hopped on the bus for 4hours west to La Fortuna. We got there at about 1pm, only to find out that the collection service from the hostel, (which is about 40mins drive away in El Castillo), didn't arrive until 5:15pm. Consequently we spent the afternoon laying in the park relaxing, with Rach reading & me trying to get a photo of the gorgeous hummingbirds flying rapidly around. While in the park we overheard people discussing the earth tremor that occurred at 2pm. It seems that the old saying 'no sense, no feeling' must apply to us, as we'd been having lunch & didn't feel anything! At 5pm, we went to the collection point & by 6pm realised we were meant to confirm a lift, even though we'd requested one! So a $25 taxi ride it was! But we got there & got the thinnest room ever, with the bed above the wardrobe! This place is vegetarian & they get everyone up in groups to teach them one part of the meal. Tonight's lesson was making naan bread & we were all definitely average at it. We shared a table & wine with a young American student couple (1 x medical & 1 x engineering), who were OK, but you could sense the age difference. After which we chilled by the pool (in the dark!), staring up at Arenal volcano hoping to see the legendary lava flows, but to no avail. The only thing we saw glowing (& filmed) were the multiple fireflies dotted about before we retired for the night.
