For months and months all Doms friends have gone on about is Koh Tao (Tom works there, Danny used to work there, and some other friends have visited them)
"get to to Koh Tao its brilliant" ...so we had high expectations.... and Koh Tao met them ...
The night bus left Bangkok at 9pm. We stopped at around 2am so everyone had been asleep for at least a couple of hours , and we were all like zombies walking down the stairs of the bus to go to the loo and stretch our legs etc... suddenly a tiny Thai woman stood with a mega phone !!! and started yelling 'we are stoping here for twenty minutes' or something !!! that woke us up...
When we arrived we checked into a guesthouse (well bungalow) called Happy Bungalows which cost us 3pounds each per night and was lovely, just a 5 minute walk from Sairee beach!
We were pretty tired, so we headed to the beach to relax... Dom walked all the way to the other side of the island (pretty much) to meet Tom who works at Buddha View Dive Resort but he had gone to do a visa run to Malaysia.
That afternoon we went back to our bunglow for a quick snooze before going back out for some food etc...well, that was the plan...
We woke up 15 hours later !!! It was a good start to Koh Tao (and a habbit that we pretty much kept up the whole 2 weeks
Koh Tao is beautiful .
Sairee beach was breath-taking with its white sand and blue water, with little fishes swimming around your ankles (water was sooo shallow you couldnt really swim in it, and you could only go out so far because of the coral!)
There were lots of dogs on the beach which provided us with much entertainment...
The first day we were there we watched them swimming around in the sea (two black dogs which we named El Poochio and Alice) then there was a massive brown dog that only came out now and then , walking into the sea and started barking at the fish (we named him Gizzachip)
He was the kinda dog that you can imagine in a gangster film, he would play the dog who worked for the little chihuahua and say 'ok boss' a lot and do all the chihuahua's dirty work.... anyway...(ive had a lot of time on my hands recently!)
There was also another dog (we named him Timmy as he was very Timid) he clearly wasnt very well as he was bleeding a lot and had lots of cuts and his eyes were all very red ... it was very sad to see him every day as he was obviously a stray (where as the other dogs looked like they were well looked after, with collars on and shiny coats) You all know how soft i am with animals
He seemed to get worse as the days went on...
One of the bars we went to a lot was called Baby Cave Bar... The guy who owned it was like a rasta-thai man who called dom 'brutha' a lot .. he was lovely and made delicious samsong and coke (sounds silly but we think he was putting in a bit of red bull and a bit of lime!)
The first time we went he said 'come here tonight, happy hour all night & we have a childrens fire show'....and yes, thats exactly what it was...
The kid must have been aged eight, and he was pretty good..until his little 5/6 year old brother came out and they started messing around and throwing it at each other!! They were really making us laugh until one of them let go of their fire stick and it set a bean bag alight!!! Thats why kids shouldnt play with fire!!!
After leaving the bar we got (easily) pursuaded into another bar/club called MOOV. We ordered a couple more beers and got chatting to two lads from southern England called Alex and Liam. They'd only been away a week and Alex was going home in another week while Liam was staying on and travelling for a few months.
We were all sat on the beach part of the bar and noticed a floating bar which MOOV owned so we decided to go sit on it. We got soaked trying to climb on to it even though the water only went up to knees. After about 20mins we got kicked off by the owners as they said it wasn't safe....hmmm yet they leave it pretty much inviting people to go on it! After that we finished our drinks and headed back to the bungalow.
The next day we got chatting to guy called Mick who was from Australia and he was trying to find work as a scuba instructor. Dom and Mick went to the water to play frisby and two dogs (El Poochio and Alice) promptly followed.
At first they weren't that interested but gradually they both started jumping up trying to catch it. Eventually Alice caught it and wouldn't give it back. When they finally prised it from her mouth there were holes all over it so it was useless. We threw it back to Alice and the she began digging a hole to bury it. Mick started to join in and help dig the hole but El Poochio kept coming over and protecting the Alice and the frisby.
The dogs are so soft though, Mick was chucking sand all over El Poochio and he didn't even flinch just eventually got bored and went back in the sea...those dogs have the easiest lives ever!
That evening there was a massive storm, the sky was pituresque but we decided to watch from our balcony rather than stay on the beach. We were looking out of the window and saw a giant lizard, at least 2/3 foot long. We tried to get a photo but as we opened the door it ran off.
In our bungalow we often had huge spiders and geckos in the bathroom. Luckily there was a mesh which they couldn't get through. (We Hoped)
After a few more lazy days beaching we noticed posters everywhere advertising a party at the Castle Nightclub. We had bumped into Liam, Alex and Mick and all of them had mentioned they were going so we decided to go.
It opened at 10pm and had half priced buckets till 11pm so we got there for about 10.45pm (we never miss out on a bargain) :-). It was already quite busy. They was an open top room upstairs where they played dance music and downstairs was an R & B room. We spent most our time in the R & B room was like being at Birritz in Hull.
They even played the most bizarre mix, Dolly Partons "Working 9-5" mixed with Dizzee Rascal "Fix up look sharp!"
We danced ourshelves tired and at about 3.30am we decided to leave while had the energy to walk back to bungalow. Although we went via a 7-11 for a hotdog...yummy!
The next day our heads weren't to sore so we decided to rent snorkels for the day. The snorkelling was really good fun but our masks kept leaking and fogging up. When we took them back the owner said we had been giving kids ones! Oh well...
The next day we rented a motorbike to explore the island which took no more than 30mins, the island is tiny. A little disappointing but good fun on the bike. Since we had the bike for 24hrs we made the most of and went to far end of the island for our dinner that night.
The rest of the time there we spent topping up our tans and being very lazy.
On our last night we bought some sausages for lil Timmy. He wolfed them down and was looking for more...but i didnt want to make him sick....Bless him :-(
We could have easily stayed longer, our next stop is Penang in Malaysia.
