Woke up this morning and had a nice breakfast in the hotel. I was told to try tomatoes, olive oil, and salt on toast and found it to be delicious. I added smoked ham, and cheese, and realized I was essentially eating pizza for breakfast. I was fine with that.
Everybody looks more rested, brighter eyed, and bushier tailed this morning. Last night most people were, to quote ms. Matthews, "pretty well knackered". We head out to see the royal palace today, and the prado museum.
The palace is an impressive place; I guess you could call it palatial. The students were particularly impressed by the chandaliers, but also the frescoes in every room, and silk or tapestry on every wall. There are, as well, 2600 rooms in the building. Quote of the day goes to Jasmine: "I bet they have a room specifically for flatulence".
The Prado museum was very grand, like many European art museums. The works of Valazquez, especially Las Meninas, were featured very prominently.
I'm struck by buildings we see here. Of course, the palaces are impressive, but it's the regular buildings as well. Apartment buildings have wrought-iron balconies, and front right on narrow streets. Even the large residential apartments that would be eyesores in Canada are somehow charming here.
On our way to Toledo for the rest of the day. Apparently the jetlag has not worn off, as maybe 75% of the students have fallen asleep 30 mins into the trip.

Dawn Goodridge Sigh. Yes, that's my Jasmine. She has her father's sense of humour...my apologies to all!
