January 22, Day 9 - South Luanga Park to Chipata - Left the Wildlife camp late - 9am, what a treat! I was up early to work out for an hour, did it feel good! Then stretched, some yoga and breakfast with a nice warm shower after. The campers had an elephant and baby and a hippo feeding right beside their tents. This place is absolutely beautiful. After a short drive of only 3 hours, we arrived at Mama Rulas campground. Valerie, Sam, Marianno and I went for a walk up the road to a local village, the road was horrific and the rattle traps for vehicles they were driving were literally chicken wired together. The road came out on the highway where a transport truck with two trailers was stopped. On one side, there was a tire missing (usually there are 2 together) and 28 out of 32 tires were absolutely bald. We saw so many trucks off the road and turned over driving here in the hills and now we know why!
On our way back, it started to rain and by the time we were back, it was bucketing down. I stood in it for one minute and was absolutely soaked, nice thing is that it's warm. The awning on Mama ripped and we had to rescue Sandile. After 15 minutes, it stopped and as soon as the sun came out, its bloody hot again - no grey here!
