Lake Titicaca
A small population of about 10 families decided to escape the Incas and Collas by building their own island in the middle of one of the highest lakes in the world (4000M above sea) called Lake Titicaca.
The altitude provides clear, crisp air with the strong sun and clear blue skys reflected in the water making it seem almost royal blue. The floating islands are created from the roots of reefs, woven together and then with additional 1.5 metres of reefs stacked on top and anchored before building the reef houses on top of this soft, squishy island (that constantly needs to be added to and replenished). Very odd to see and experience. These 10 families are now about 40 and their reef houses included solar panels to provide some level of electricity.
