The Most Dangerous Road
Starting at 4700M above sea level on our bikes, the air was cool and clear and the scenary was beautiful. After decending about an hour, we removed the layers of clothing as we found ourselves in lush, green, warm, jungle mountains with waterfalls.
It is called the most dangerous road because the entire road is on the edge of cliffs and many cars and bikes have gone over the cliffs throughout the years (I actually think it should be called the most uncomfortable road because 40KM of rough road on a ill-equipped bike isn´t all that fun but it wouldn´t make much of a marketing campaign).
The real most dangerous road, we actually experienced the day after on an 18 hour bus ride to Rurrenbaque. Vertigo kicked in several times as we looked down out our window and could barely see the road from the steep cliffs (and it should have been a one-way road so reversing was an experience in itself)...we opted for a flight back to La Paz.
