Lagunas Y Salar de Uyuni
A breathtaking and diverse landscape made up this 4X4 trip across Southern Bolivia. Starting off with needle-type rock formations, continuing on to rainbow coloured mountains, then to the green, red, blue coloured lakes, finishing at an endless horizon of white crystals created by the world´s largest salt bed (3653M and 12,000 sq KM) - all made even more magnificent against a clear blue sky the entire way.
We shared a jeep with Anne and Craig from Australia who had a fantastic sense of humour (Craig has travelled 40% of the world´s countries!); Lars, a photographer from the US who travelled with us for half the trip and provided a great eye to the landscape; Sophie (a French woman I´ve been traveling with for 4 weeks) who brought out the silly side in me as we played for the day on the Salar.
I celebrated my 33rd birthday on the edge of the Salar - climbing a hill at sunset with Sophie, beers in hand, followed by blowing out candles on a tasty lemon cake at the Salt Hostel - truly one of the most memorable birthdays and ¨road¨ trips of my life.
