damo and jane - tour 2004/5
Hey groovers!
Howiseveryone? Good we hope. This is damo again, sending a postcard (or a blog card) from an internet cafe in a lovely place called Huskisson in the Bay known as Jervis Bay. Its about 3hrs south of Sydney and we have been here for a couple of days. We decided to hire a camper van (instead of buying one) for 10 weeks and do 2 weeks south, followed by 8 weeks north - all on the east coast. We have been on the road for nearly a week and its been wicked. We stayed in Kiama for one night then cruised on down (slowly) towards Jervis Bay. We had to stop at this cute little place called Gerroa (i think) which is home to the famous '7 mile beach'. Amazing is all I can say. We got befriended by the coolest of locals while we were there and he ended up letting us park the van on his front lawn. Billy is his name and he is 77 years old and in full reciept of all faculties. Also a VW man, so he cant be bad - for an Aussie!! He showed us the sights and told us some mad stories - he was actually a 'swagman' back in the 50's and some of the stories - will have to wait till we are back for those!! We have boogie boarded in the sea as well - off 7 mile beach (gorgeous to learn on, really safe waters, no stingers) and couldnt get out it was so good. Got nicely burnt even after 2 applications of spf 30!!! But its all good mate!! After leaving Billy and Gerroa, we stopped off at a gorgeous vineyard/winery, the name of which escapes me. Although I am unable to upload photos at the mo (tight locked down PCs in cafe) I will as soon as, because the place is amazing.. We did some tasting (well, Jane did) of some wine and cheese and bought a bottle. Finally, we arrivede here in Jervis Bay where we have found a cracking little camp site - nice and chilled, and its right by a place called Palm Beach - bit of a sea fed lake which is massive. Loads of watersports here - in fact Jane is doing a dive at the moment and is due to finish shortly. Apparently the diving here is as good as, if not better than, the Barrier Reef. Well, we will be able to answer that question in a few months, as we will be going there too!! Peace and love dudes, more travel tales soon!!!
