What a beautiful day to go to Washington DC. There is a Penn station about a 10 min drive from Ft Meade so we planned to take the train to Union Station and hop on the Metro, however as with all well laid plans that did not work out! To our surprise the train only runs M-F and not on Sat. So we made the 20 mile drive into DC with our big F250. We found a metro station on the outskirts of the city where there was free parking along the street. So we parked and hopped on the Metro and crossed our fingers and said a little prayer that our truck would still be there when we came back!
We walked along the Mall by the Washington Monument which is under repair and covered in scaffolding due to the earthquake in 2011. We visited the new WWII memorial which is very impressive. The Lincoln Memorial is so huge, I am always amazed at the size. I can't help getting chocked up when walking along the Viet Nam wall, all those names. Would have liked to have gone over to Arlington and the Tomb of the unknown but we have been there before and there just wasn't time this trip. To escape the heat, we stopped by the American History Smithsonian on our way back to the Metro. Our truck was untouched so it turned out to be a great day after all.
