Hi Girls and Guys, this is our first blog entry and so it may be a bit mumble jumble with us trying to get in all the things we have seen so far. Its started quite funny as you would expect something went wrong and then it snowballed from there! Took us hours to get into Heathrow and when we got there and checked in the man ran off with the passports and when he came back he told us our tickets were booked as paper and not etickets (welldone STA) managed to get through in the end and then Divs bag got searched cause he had spray in his bag..eventually had to run for our flight and only just made it (i dont do running so i was nearly sick afterwards!)
We then got into Mumbai and got off the plane to a very different smell..bit like hannahs toilet incident!! Still well happy to be starting our trip..i went to get our bags and then wondered why only one had arrived..i was very happy i had my bag..then a lady was walking round saying something and i eventually worked out she said Byworth..she then informed us byworth bag had not been put on the flight due to the flight exceeding its weight limit (funny they didnt stop people with bags bigger than me and div!!!) Whilst filling out the forms we looked at the locks on the bag (divs were black and mine were red) we realised it was my bag that had not arrived. Yes true to form i was proper pissed off..swetty and with no clothes or pills (not drugs ;) ) i was sent off to my hotel minus a bag.
Satrted on the Taxi drive to our hotel and couldnt have had more of a culture shock if we tried! DRiving through shanty towns..with children running around the roads (we're talking small children) drivers dont stay in their own lanes they driver all over tha place and just beep to say they're coming past they dont even shout at each other, was so strange..think me ad div were in a state of shock at first! Once we were driving closer to our hotel nr Chowpatty beach we realised they dont use scaffolding like us, they use bamboo with rope!! This is to keep up or maintain old buildings. We decided that day we would take a walk. This turned into a massive trek where we walked all the way up past Chowpatty beach.
Me and Div started to realise that people were staring at us, thought this might happen but no joke evryone was fasinated by us and the men kept shouting stuff at me (prob cause of the hair) I was well covered up so not to cause offence and was swetting buckets! We took loads of pics (which will have to come up later) this was a Sunday and so most places were shut so we took a walk along the beach as it seemed this was where everyone went..it was packed!! We were surprised there were so many birds and then realised they had feeding circles..literally thousands and thats all you can here at night.
Our hotel was pretty good. The people are really nice and do anything to help you. We had an all day tour which consisted of several temples (dont have all the info with us here) went to Mumbai zoo, but had to swiftly leave to go and blag getting my bag back. We went to see Ghandi's House/Museum which was well cool (divhead got a picture of Ghandi's flip flop and cant wait to post it!) I bought a book of his quotes and thoughts..well deep! Met some cool old Irish people and everywhere we went they were there..we decided they were following us he he. One of the biggest shocks of the day was when we were driving along and this todler no older than 18months was tied to a wall with some string. She was crying and no joke she was so close we could have run over her! This is normal in India..all the children beg and rub their bellies and you feel sorry for them but once you give one some money about another 7 come along. They run round holding their baby siblings its so bad!
Then that night we went for some grub at the top of this hotel that had a spinning restaurant; could see for miles!!!
Next day we got up..i say got up..i was woken up by Div saying "s*** margo quick" I then realised we had to bust a groove AGAIN and get the hell outta there as we were gonna miss our 12+ hour train ride to Goa. Just made it after div being ripped off by the taxi driver and eventually jumped on the train. Met a nice indian family on the train who helped us when we thought we might not beable to get off at the stop we wanted. Div was kept well amused when this indian guy was trying to look round at div but then smacked his head on this metal pole..glasses were wonky and i think he was a little dazzed. As i was catching up on some sleep div decided to hang out the side of the train and take some video footage (we might try and put that up its quite cool)
We arrived in Goa in the dark and took a taxi to our new hotel where my friend from the Bedford is staying. We got a bit lost on the way and the driver was a complete and utter nutter driver; even compared to the ones in Mumbai. I had to grab hold of div a couple of times as i thought we were gonna crash into the back of the scooters/mopeds.
Today we're getting to grips with the different culture down here. We're still not tanned though but will be getting there as western people seem to be less clothed down here..no more sweating for me! Loads of doggies and cats about..anybody want a dog? Ill brng it back? Katie dan surely you guys need a dog/cat will complete the family! Right we're off to get a bloody mobile charger..no joke we have been winding up these hand chargers for your mobile that do nothing to your mobile but seem to make your arms pretty toned!! We're now heading off to the Goa flea market woop
love you all, take care, stay sharp
Love Margo and Div
