We all left Puerto Viejo together on Wednesday morning. The busride to the bordertown Siaxoala was bumpy and hot! The sun can be quite strong at 7am down here... The border between Costa Rica and Panama actually has a bridge and a sign indicating exactly where the border is, which is the first one I've seen here in Central America! From the border we got a taxi to Changuinola and from there a watertaxi to Bocas. I've been excited about Panama throughout my trip and I've heard so many good things about carribean paradise of Bocas with laods of deserted white beaches... The town was cosy. Got a cheap place to stay with a TV! Thoose small things matters when you're on the road... In the evening we checked out the bar at the local backpacker hostel and went for dinner at a restaurant by the sea...
The next day Rach and me went on a boattrip to different spots of the archipelagos. First we went dolphin watching and we saw quite a few, then went for snorkelling on the reef, which was good but not at all like Mexico, Belize or Honduras! Then we were dropped off at the red frog beach and that was stunning! The weather was perfect and the swim in the clear water was amazing! Definately one of the most beautiful beaches I've seen...
On Friday we sorted out a trip to some other archipelagos in Panama; San Blas. Also supposed to be picturesque palmfringed white carribean beaches...We're flying there and staying in a hammoch hotel for two nights or at least that's what we're hoping to do! I made the phonecall trying to make a reservation in spanish but the people in San Blas are indigenous so spanish is their second language...Communication isn't always that easy down here... After all this we went to stay on another island; Bastimentos...The weather was against us though so we never made it to the beach. Instead we relaxed at the hostel which was fantastic. The people there were so friendly and they made us dinner in the evening; oven baked red snapper, straight from the sea! In the evening we all played cards...
Today we tried to go to the beach. it looked like the sun was coming out and we hired a boat to take us to wizard beach...There were no people there so we had this deserted beachto ourselves! Two of the people were on their honemoon, backpacking around central america and where else can you reach a deserted carribean beach for $3? We chilled for 30 minutes and then the rain came! So we were all hiding under the palmtrees trying to dodge the rain for 1 hour or so...The sea was warm so we went swimming until the boat picked us up...The sea was so choppy so we got even more value for our money with this kind of rollercoasterride in the sea! It was a good day but though I wished we had a few more minutes in the sun...but hey, more beaches to come!
