So I left Jan the danish man to do a tour of the Whitsunday Islands. We set off on friday afteroon at 1pm for a 2 day, 2 night tour of the islands. The weather was beautiful, but unfortunately there was no wind, so we had to motor in our maxi pocket racing vessel. We cruised for about 4 hours passing the most amazing beaches and boats and scenery I have ever seen. Proper picture postcard stuff!! The cruise out to the Islands gave us all plenty of time to get to know everyone and this was made a little easier by the constant flow of wine being passed around (they call the cheap wine Goon!). We eventually moored up for the evening off the shore of the largest of all the Whitsunday Islands. Here we were able to have a swim, but not before our Skipper told everyone in no uncertain terms about all the dangers that lay waiting for us in the sea! He told us about Bull Sharks, Box Jelly fish, sea snakes, poisonous fish and the strong currents. He told us that they all could "KILL YA". Those were his terms! Obviously his little talk out a few of the party off, but there were still the more drunk passengers, like myself who dived in and had a lovely time cooling off in the clear waters. The evening involved eating dinner (made by the lovely cook Priscilla), getting more drunk, telling stories about our trips and trying to name the star constellations in the bright night sky.
The next day was an early start. Up for 6.30am, a quick breakfast and onto the Whitsunday Islands to get an amazing view of the beaches and rainforests that surrounded us. Next we took a stroll down to the beach for a walk on the finest, whitest sand I have ever seen. Apparently tourists have been caught taking sand from this beach for its exfoliating benefits and received a big fine (hehe!). After a quick dip in the sea, we took a cruise up the Islands where we stop for lunch and to snorkel. Myself, Alex and Dave managed to spot a 3ft long potato cod (they are brown with black spots and have Mick Jagger lips, rather amusing to look at) lurking in the shadows by the rocks! The evening was much the same as the last, more drinking and laughing, with the added excitment of the Skipper nearly falling overboard after one to many beers!
The final day was again an early start, so myself and Alex went for an early morning swim to investigate the boat that had been trashed on the rocks from the recent storms. After that it was a 2 hour journey back to harbour and back for evening of drinking with the guys from the trip in the beeches bar!
