So after spending a few days chilling out with the people I met from the YHA hostel and Whitsunday Tour, I decided to move on south to Noosa. Since myself and Jan had gone separate ways, I purchased a Greyhound bus ticket which would take me all the way down to Newcastle to get me to my connecting flight to Melbourne. The ticket is called a kilometre pass which allows you to get off and back when and wherever you like. So my next stop was Noosa. A tiny little place full of expensive boutiques and surfers! I arrived for midday and had the rest of the day to kill. I needed some advice as I knew what activities I wanted to do. They were surf lessons and Steve Irwin's Zoo. The next day I was off to the zoo so that afternoon was surf time!
Surfing is cool! Everyone should have ago, and yes it as hard as it looks! The lesson consisted of land demonstrations and then straight into the sea to ride some wave! I was quite impressed with the tuition, it was fun, light hearted and we actually learnt a little bit too. To stand up on the board consists of 3 movements. 1. Hop on the board before a wave knocks you off and then lay there in a sort off press up position. 2. Push up with your arms and plant your right foot at the back of the board. 3. Start to stand up and place your left foot in the middle of the board, use your arms for balance and ride that wave. I managed to stand up a couple of times, but with nore practice i'm sure I could do it.
The next day was off to Steve Irwin's Zoo with Craig and Magda (I think that was her name). I was really excited about the Zoo because of Steve Irwin's reputation as an entertainer. We got there early and managed to see all the scheduled daily shows. The animals were well cared for, the zoo was clean and not too expensive, but I went away feeling a little disappointed about the day. The whole place seemed a little cheesey! Elephant feeding was the public feeding them watermelon and having a photo taken, one at a time! The main show was appalling, with the presenters trying to be funny and it falling flat everytime. I expected the Zoo keepers heads to be in the crocs mouths, just like Steve Irwin might do!
At least the evenings provided more entertainment! The YHA in Noosa is the only hostel that I stayed in so far with a bar! So we made full use of it. Myself, Craig and Katie (all from my room). Down in the bar I met up with a Canadian called Dave who had been on the Uluru tour. So after the bar closed we all made our way down to the beach for more drinks and to here Dave play his soulful tunes on his guitar! Amazing stuff!
