Today we went deep into the Daintree. We first visited Daintree village. It is very small. We then took the car ferry across to Cape Tribulation. I liked the car ferry.
We soon arrived at the Daintree Discovery Centre. The centre has five tours you can take. They give you a phone looking thing that lets you listen to information during the walk.
· Tour 1 - Walkway.
· Tour 2 - Canopy Tower.
· Tour 3 - Cassowary Tour
· Tour 4 - Bush Tucker Tour
· Tour 5 - Jurassic Forest Tour
I liked the discovery centre. My favourite tour was the Canopy Tower. This tour lets you climb through the different levels of the rainforest, right from the bottom and all the way to the top. We also found out that the Daintree Rainforest is the oldest rainforest in the world, even older than the Amazon!
I learnt a lot about the Cassowary as well when we did the Cassowary Tour. Here are some fun facts about the Cassowary.
· Males are taller than females.
· They live on their own mostly. They are not very social.
· The horn on their head is made of similar stuff to our nails.
· They eat fruit, insects and sometimes even small mice.
· Males sit on the eggs for 50 days.
· When the birds are with their chicks they can be very aggressive and dangerous to other animals and humans.
After our tours we headed home and hit the pool. We played in the pool most of the afternoon and made friends with another family. We ended the day at the beach enjoying the sunset.
At dinner we ran into two Mauritian ladies, mum and dad had a great time talking to them. After dinner we saw a lot of cars with lights under them. Dad wondered why everyone had lights under their cars so Olivier asked. When Olivier returned he told us that the lights were to stop the White Tailed Rats from eating the cars wires. Dad said "Oh great where are our lights" … we all laughed as dad said he thought those rats were shady! Dad now thinks that maybe we should not have asked that question.
