Didier Moutia's Travels
We were not sure where to go this morning. Dad thought we should go to Crocosauraus Cove but the lady at the reception convinced dad we should go to Crocodylus Park.
Crocodylus is a zoo, it not only has Crocodiles, it also has Monkeys, Lions, Tigers, Meerkats and other animals. We were more interested in the Crocodiles. We took the early morning tour. Before the tour even started we played with a friendly Galah called Alfie. The Galah seemed to love dad, it kept coming up to him and wanting a scratch. Dad could scratch Alfie with no problems, when we tried sometimes she would quickly turn and bite us. Even though she bit us we still loved her.
We started our tour by visiting the pens which are used for breeding. Each pen has a male and female crocodile. Some of the males were 3.5 to 4 metres long and weighed up to 530kg. These crocodiles are massive!! What was cool about this tour was that we got to feed the male crocodiles. The guide placed meat on a stick and then we got to lower it and try and make the crocodile jump. That was not hard, it is amazing how high the crocodiles can jump. After feeding we visited the raising pens where baby crocodiles are kept to grow.
At the end of the tour we got to hold a baby Crocodile. They are surprisingly soft. We spent the rest of our our time at Crocodylus visiting the other animals. Of course we spent a long time visiting our favourite animal, the Meerkats.
Next stop ... the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre. For us the highlight was getting to see the B52 bomber. There were lots of planes there including the Mirage IIIO and F1-11 jet fighters. We spent a couple of hours here and learnt a lot about Darwin in WWII and also military aircraft.
Last stop of the day was the Darwin Wharf Wave Pool. It is only a couple of hundred metres from our accommodation. We almost had the place to ourselves. It was mega awesome and we will be back there again tomorrow!
