The bus people decided that it would be beneficial for everyone's hearing to play the film at full tit. I struggled to listen to my own music over the racket.
The scenery along the coast was beautiful, masses of birds swarming around on the air currents. My first view of proper beachy Pacific for the first time in along time.
On arrival in Montanita we checked into the Tiki Limbo hostel and hit the beach. The weather was overcast but warm and the surfers were out in force. After walking the length of the beach we stopped for beer o'clock at a hotel with tables that overlooked the beach. Whilst there we watched some guys snorkelling to catch some fish. They came up empty-handed though, unfortunately for me, they decided to de-robe to their jocks in front of us. I'd have no complaints if they all had David Beckham's bodies, but they were more like Homer Simpson.
After a couple of bevvies we returned to the other end of the beach and settled ourselves down at one of the makeshift bars they have along the path to the beach. It's an ingenious plan, multiple stalls with five or six seats, all serving cheap cocktails to the punters. Next stop on the cards was a club and then home to bed around 3 in the morning.
The next day was extremely non-eventful, to the point that I didn't venture out of my pit until around 1.30 in the afternoon. Sascha had gone to the beach and I managed to join him for a good half an hour before turning around and heading back to my bed. I managed to make it back up for dinner, but had about three bites and decided to call it a night - a lively day indeed. There were several "I'm never drinking again" comments, but as we all know, this was just talk.
Day three, I managed to make it up for breakfast and went for a stroll along the beach. It was amazing to be back near the ocean again and I started to look forward to being back in NZ where hopefully I would once again only be 10 mins from a beach.
It was lunch time, so I took my laptop down to a café and had a leisurely lunch, well I had about half it and then pawned the rest of it off onto Sascha, who'd finally risen from his pit.
Dinner time, we ended up eating at our hostel and we hit the cocktails again, deciding to go through the different flavoured daiquiris. The passion fruit one was the clear winner of the evening. After a couple more drinks at one of the temporary stalls before going to listen to a live band and attempt to dance in sand - not the easiest of tasks, especially when you don't recognise most of the music.
We decided to call it a night, but for some reason ended up on the beach sitting round a bonfire talking to some randoms - well mostly listening, because they were all talking in Spanish.
The next day after a bit of a sleep in, we left for Puerto Lopez.
