Sitting in the night bus to Byron Bay, I can finally take a moment to reminisce on my days in Sydney.
I don't know if that is how traveling works, because I remember saying the same about Cape Town when I arrived there to start my Africa journey, but Sydney has stolen my heart. For real. I felt instantly home in this amazing city, where the most friendliest people of the world all live happily together. Everyone seems to be happy in their lives, and instead of being fed up with us tourists, they treat us as close friends.
Walking on the streets it's evident that people from Sydney are active. Active in jogging, active in studying, active in serving and helping tourists. And we all feel like we are everyone's best friend. Take that cranky dutchies!
All around the city are small cafes and diners where, even though it is expensive, you feel like giving money is the least you can do for showing your gratitude for the very fine food, drinks and best-friend-attitude.
Yes, I am madly in love with you Sydney!
After I arrived in my sleeping dorm (at 11.00 am..) on the first day, I decided to walk back to another hostel to pick up Louisa, who is traveling by herself and was in the same flight and transfer bus as me.
Wednesday, our first day, we managed to wander around our lively neighborhood King's Cross, and walked towards the Opera House and the Botanic Gardens. In the evening Thomas from the US joined us, and we had a first taste of the amazing food of Sydney: a small, comfy and funky Vietnamese restaurant.
Thursday, our beach day, was when we went via Oxford street to Bondi Beach (no 1 priority is naturally my tan), and the night showed us that Sydney is only for real party-ing and results in serious hiccups and balance disorders. The next morning told us that drinking the cheapest wine has its effect too..
And I hate to confess it, but Friday only brought us rain. Luckily we had no problem doing some naps with our napsnacks (credits to Louisa). But a girl's gotta eat, and we ended up having some delicious fresh pizza, jummie!
And after rain comes sunshine, which in Sydney means we got to drink free cheap wine the entire night. We had no problem with that.
On my last day, Saturday, I managed to squeeze in two markets, Paddington's and Paddy's, including China Town, and got up the Sydney Harbour bridge for a spectacular view and of course the classic Opera House pictures.
The Rocks, a neighborhood right at the bridge, looked like those mock up towns in Disney Land, but was simply a typical Sydney block: only 'gezelligheid', which they definitely know all about in Sydney!
Simply put: Sydney truly is amazing. I had a great time with my fellow backpackers, and I see myself coming back here. Sydney has shown me a kindness I was much in need of, and felt like a true home. I am grateful I am traveling again, and though it will still not solve anything, it puts a little love back in my heart.
Off to the next destination, Byron Bay! And maybe a little more of that Australian sunshine?

Ning Wah Choy Lieve Diandra, Helemaaaaal met je eens. Een fantastische stad!! Een geweldig land en wacht tot je de outback hebt gezien!!!!! Misschien is er ergens een job voor je. In de "hotelerie" ?
Mol Hiiiii Sheila! Sounds amazing! Dus show me some cocktails baby! Have fun, ben benieuwd naar je nieuwe blog. LLL XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX je Mol.
