Arrived in Port Fairy on Saturday - a pretty small town, which still has its christmas decorations up along the high street - though not lit up. I guess it saves the cost of putting them up and taking them down... We even speculated whether they might have used them for Australia Day too...
Port Fairy was to be the last stopover before joining the actual "Great Ocean Road" that follows the coast to Melbourne (though the journey so far has also been pretty much along the coast).
A key feature of Port Fairy is well of course the fact that it's a port (there seems to be a lot of fishing going on from there) but also Griffiths Island which is looked after for the plants and wildlife that develop there. There are quite a few birds out there, but also a population of our bouncy friends the wallabies - we came up very close to two of them and saw others hopping around so a few good photos out of that - despite the heat. It was a nice surpirse, after those countless roadsigns warning of kangaroo crossings etc!!!
