A bit of catching up to do... More difficult to locate internet in smaller places!
After a relatively short drive (at least compared to yesterday) we made it to the little town of Mt Gambier early afternoon (having left Robe late morning).
The big feature here is a large natural lake, set in a crater which was formed through volcanic activity quite a long time ago. As it captures rainfall, it is also the primary source of drinkwater in the area.
So we are walking in the afternoon sun exploring - and finding an ice-cream!
Found that long-awaited ice-cream at the top of a big hill - just over the big Blue Lake. The colour is very reminiscent of that in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland - must be the mineral composition of the rocks, they're both volcanic areas!
Tomorrow will be the next stage towards the start of the Great Ocean Road, which will take us along the coast, past the Twelve Apostles, and ultimately all the way to Melbourne - which we should reach on Monday.

Denise Well done you guys with this blog thing. Much better than postcards.Very impressed with your driving that distance the other day and not one kangaroo squashed by the sound of it. (You should understand that other than Taranga Zoo, the most likely time to see one of "your bouncy friends" as you put it is in a very "non-bouncy" flat state at the side of the road.Looking forward to the next instalment and think of us here struggling with temperatures slightly above 0 degrees with a bitter Easterly wind. Dom: well fortunately for us we have now seen more of them, and koalas too. I think we've passed the really hot part for now (over 37 deg) and it has now cooled down a little - though can't yet relate to your close-to-zero!!!
