The day spent walking amongst the Amazon Jungle was awesome! It was a warm day and lathered in sunscreen and mosquito repellent we headed off on a 7km walk in gum boots.
The jungle is so lush & green with an abundance of plant life, insects and animals to feast your eyes upon.
We came across Monkeys, the most colourful butterflies, including the Morpho, a big blue butterfly. Simply stunning. We eventually made it to a beautiful lake, where we took a canoe ride to see Cayman (aka alligators), more monkeys and some Macau's. I was very disappointed we never saw an anaconda. The guides did show me a pic of one they had seen fairly recently. My goodness, the thing is MASSIVE!
After our canoe ride, a guide and myself tried fishing for a Pirhana with no luck. Those little things are so quick to steal your bait!
Before the day was out, we were treated to seeing a sloth and I was also lucky enough to see an emerald tree boa - it was the greenest of greens!
A stay on the Tambopata river isn't complete without some Cayman spotting - something that I was slightly underwhelmed with after having gone croc spotting when I was young and lived up north. We saw a few but it wasn't that spectacular. The stars on the other hand, just amazing!! There was no moon and the sky was like a planetarium, just like dark nights out to sea when we are offshore - so so beautiful.
And so, after the whirlwind visit to the jungle, we headed back down the river to the bus to the plane and to Cusco, altitude approx 3200m.
