After El Coco Loco I found myself in a rental car heading for the southern coast of Nicaragua with two Californians, Ben and Barry. The southern parts of Nicaraguas pacific coastline is quite different from its northern parts. It´s far more developed and accesible, there is more money, more fancy resorts, and therefore more tourists. Nonetheless, the surfing is spectacular.
The surfing lifestyle was a very good transition from El Coco Loco. Early mornings, active days and lots of sleep. We had great conditions and a solid variety of breaks. I´m obviously still a rookie, but my foundness for surfing is ever increasing for every hour in the water. With two sessoions a day I also felt I progressed alot. Feeling more comfortable in the waves (and under them) and catching more and more waves and managing proper rides. The big highlight was tagging along on a boat trip that took us to a famous beach called Playa Colorado, were the waves roll in perfectly and consistently. A great day of paddling, holding my breath during underwater summersalts and an occasional ride.
It made it even better that Barry is a proffesional surf-coach. The little things makes a huge difference in this sport, and having an experienced surfer pointing you in the right direction is a huge advantage. Sadly, although not for my bleeding wallett, Ben and Barry only had three more days in Nicaragua. So that was that for my surfing so far in the Americas. Unfortunately I managed to leave my camera in their car as we were leaving, so I have no photos from southern Nica.
Back on the road. Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia lies ahead with cooler climates and new nature experiences.
