Virgin Falls

Imagine a waterfall that falls from a cave and empties into a sinkhole. That is what Virgin Falls does. The beautiful piece of nature in located in Central Tennessee just southeast of Sparta.

I made this scenic hike with several friends.The nine mile hike is punctuated by several stream crossings, many waterfalls and towering cliffs. The namesake falls cascades out of a cave to drop 120ft into a large sinkhole. The tons of water the drops every minute pounds it's way underground.

The hike is strenuous but very pretty. The stream crossing can be pretty scary when the water is flowing with a vengeance. We had a ball and I took over 400 photos.
