Hi from Vegas,
San Fran to Las Vegas (Wed 17 March) - the plane left San Francisco on time, but it did a short stopover in LA before heading on to Las Vegas. As we were about to takeoff from LA, the Captain made an announcement saying there was a problem with the right engine, it wasn't firing up, or something along those lines (well that's the first problem I've encountered during my 15 landings / takeoffs so not bad going eh !). Anyway, Maintenance turned up and about two hours later we took off in the same plane and yep, I did arrive safely in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.
As I was still not feeling too good, I decided to have an early night especially as my tour of the Canyon was booked for the next morning - I've waited for this moment so long - I needed to feel great !
Las Vegas (Thurs 18 March) - my day started with a coach pickup from my hotel Platinum Spa) and as we left Las Vegas for the Canyon, I once again saw another beautiful sunrise (yep, you've guessed, it will be part of my photo gallery) ! I couldn't have asked for a better day, the sun was shining, there was no wind and the temperature was in the mid 70s.
On route to the Canyon, we stopped at Hoover Dam (according to the guide, this dam tamed the River Colorado and created the largest manmade lake in the nation).
Well, finally after 3 decades of dreaming of this moment, I stood on the magnificent Grand Canyon ! I spent many solitary moments sitting on the edge of the rim and taking in the breathtaking views surrounding me. Included in my itinerary was a helicopter ride over the canyon followed by a 20 minute Pontoon Boat ride on the Colorado River - the whole experience was "bloody marvellous" (you have to say this in the same tone as Prince Charles would, cos it sounds better that way) !
On the way back to Las Vegas we journeyed through the world's oldest and largest Joshua Tree Forests (900 years old) to take photographs - ouch, those needles are sharp !
When we returned to LV, I decided to take a walk down the LV Strip and entered the Paris Las Vegas hotel, to look around and have something to eat. As I said before, it was a glorious day, however, when I left the Paris Hotel (a good few hours later), it felt like I was in a different place completely - the winds were very strong (possibly 70mph, honest I'm not exaggerating), I was pretty scared as I made my way back to the hotel, but don't panic I made it okay - guess it was a tad worrying as no one was expecting the change in the climate - oh well ......
I've now got two days left here in LV and will be checking out the action in the finest casino resorts on The Las Vegas Strip - from the dancing water fountains at the Bellagio, pirate show at Treasure Island, to the Gondola rides at the Venetian - no not playing the machines as you were thinking !
Well, I'm nearly at the end of my 5 month trip, so one or maybe two more updates left on my blog.
Salaams and catch you laters ! Dee x
p.s. My hotel room (well suite) is massive, the bathroom is the size of my lounge back home. It's got a shower and a double size Jacuzzi and I'm using both (no, not at the same time) !
