Our stay in the Capital started with camera trouble!!! The evening we arrived we decided to put some photos on the blog for all you lovely people to look at, however the computer at the hostel crashed while we were uploading. The camera didn't work after that!! After a very stressful evening we woke up and headed out to find 'a man that can!' and luckily we did! A very nice man in a Kodak shop scanned our memory card and found that the computer had given our memory card 4 viruses (two of which were trojan viruses)!! He managed to get rid of the viruses and retrieve our photos - of which there were over 1000!! Relieved we set off to start our first day in Kuala Lumpur.
We had deided to have a wander round the city on our first day to get our bearings so we started at Petaling road which is a busy market area in Chinatown where we got some lovey fresh fruit whilst walking around trying not to buy any more souveniers!! We really didn't help ourselves with this as next we headed to central market: more shops!! After wandering around enjoying the aircon more than anything else, we went to Merdaka Square which has a lot of the older buildings surrounding it. All of the buildings were really beautiful with large pillars and dome roofs. We sat and had a quick lunch in the square by the fountains before we went over to Little India and then on to find the largest Mosque in South East Asia, the National Mosque which was to be fair HUGE! We also saw the old railway station (which was beautiful) and had a look around the national museum (which wasn't that good as a lot of it was closed!!). At the end of a long walking day we headed back to central market for dinner in the food court and wandered weirly back to our hostel.
The second day started VERY early! We had decided to go the the Petronas Towers (number 2 tallest building in the world!) and had been told to get there very early if you want to get tickets. Luckily we did and manged to get in quite early! We had a little wait before we could go up to the walkway and so we had a look around the exhibitions centre. You only get about 10 mins at the top so after a few quick snaps of the view it was back down so wander the very big mall and gardens behind the towers. Then it was down the road for a quick trip up the KL Tower to admire the view, but as it was sooooo hot we went back to the hostel to 'chill' (literally!!) for a few hours. We wanted to see the towers by night as they were so spectacular, and so we went back to the food court for dinner and to watch Sweeny Todd at the cinema. After the film we went back to the gardens to view the towers and WOW what a sight!
We had a much needed lie in the next day and then went in search of the Batu Caves. These huge caves have temples built into the sides but after arriving and finding it wasn't quite as spectacular as we thought we took a few photos and had a look around before heading back into the city (after much monkey dodging!). We FINALLY managed to find somewhere in KL that sold poster tubes for a blow pipe Dave bought (pain of my life!!) and so headed off in search of the Negara Stadium for the World Futsal Tournament, where we managed to get tickets for the afternoon and evening matches (which Dave was very pleased about!! Football is the third person in our relationship!!). We got to watch Argentina vs Australia (fianl score: 3-3, a cracking match so Dave tells me!) followed by Brazil vs Holland which was I have to say a little boring!! I then spent the rest of the evening trying to fashion a poster tube big enough for the blow pipe to send home! Yey for the duck tape!
Our last day in the capital and after 3 trips to the post office we finally manged to get rid of the blow pipe! Then we went in search of the Lake Gardens though unfortunately it rained A LOT! We got caught up in monsoon weather and had to take shelter under some random person's porch for about 20 mins as the rain was so heavy! Eventually it eased enough for us to make a dash (well its about a 30 min walk!) back to our hostel to get sorted for yet another travelling day, this time down the coast to Melaka!
