I have well and truly lost touch with the blog again, from having loads of fun! After Phnom Penh we headed to a place called sihanoukville were our pals mark and Eric were. We stayed in a beach hut with the beach right on our doorstep. Perfect! We didn't arrive to quite late so becky and I had some food and watched some movies then headed to bed. The next day was ultimate tannage! It was beautiful. We lay out all day and weren't disturbed by anyone. Low season means there are generally less people but the plus side is hostels are usually cheaper. Win! That night we arranged to meet up with Eric as it would be the last time we would see him before he heads to Thailand! We ended up in the bars along the beach and played a few games of beer pong. At one point I went to pick up the ball and fell over a pile of bricks. A lovely gash on my ankle! And I wasn't even drunk at this point! We then dipped our feet in the sea and watched the plankton glow, something I hope everyone experiences at least once!
The following day we decided to get the boat to koh rong, a little small island 2 hours away on the ferry. We had heard good things about koh rong but as soon as I arrived I had a bad feeling. My immediate impression was that this was an island were everyone sits around getting stoned all day. I told becky and she agreed, it had that hippie 'I haven't washed in weeks' vibe. We agreed one night on koh rong and then we were out! Dee from the orphanage mailed me after seeing that I was on the island, and turns out she was too! We arranged to meet that night so I was super excited for some of the 'awesome foursome (Luca, flo, dee, Debra)' to be reunited! Becky and I headed to a beach bar and ordered some BBQ food. We managed to get away with it for free. I have come to two conclusions about how this happened. 1) I ordered directly from the chef instead of the waitress 2) everyone was too stoned to ask us for money. This island was beginning to turn the life out of me, but hey at least we got free food! Dee showed up and it was awesome. A few drinks were had and then bed!
The next day our guesthouse owner mr mean said we could join him and his pals after we said we wanted to go snorkelling. He took us out Into the ocean with a massive group of Cambodians and literally chucked us into the sea. This trip is making me realise what a horrendous swimmer I am, and much to my embarrassment I asked for a life jacket... I think I might need to improve my skills before becky and I go diving in Thailand! Ha. After snorkelling and seeing all the lovely tropical fish, we had a go at trying to catch a few. Obviously becky and I were terrible and caught zero fish between us, meanwhile the locals were reining them in left right and centre! Back to the island and I said goodbye to dee. Our boat was at 4 so we packed up our stuff and I waved goodbye to the island and hoped I would never be anywhere like it again! The sunset during the boat ride was incredible, it was worth staying on the island alone! We got back and checked Into a guesthouse for a night before booking our bus to siem reap! I was looking forward to doing activities and getting away from deserted islands!
