Had a long day today, training it to Florence for a full day tour, and then getting back to the Villa just after 10pm, due to a cancelled train and then an indirect trip back to Siena. Meant to be though, as we caught up with an American family we travelled on the train with yesterday morning and had a great and lengthy conversation with them!! Here's Bwian the Bwave with the Ponte Vecchio in the background!!
Florence was quite stunning, with some amazing architecture and of course jaw-dropping works of art that we've seen copies of all of our lives!!! Seeing the statue of Michael Angelo's David and Boticelli's 'Birth of Venus' for real was a highlight for me! The 'Birth of Venus' is the first renaissance painting I remember seeing as a child, so I loved seeing the real thing!! We met a Welsh couple and had lunch with them in a little restaurant. The bruschetta was fantastic!!! (... miss you, Kathy!!) After our tour we wandered back to the stazione, to hang out for an hour or so until we could get a train in the right direction!! Reckon we could spend quite a few days in Florence, 'cos it's got a great energy and LOTS. to see!!! Anyway - love to all at home!! Salute!! Xx
