Revelation Day today .... or is that Reformation Day???
We stopped in Wertheim, a large village in, of course, a very scenic location. We did a walking tour and then came to the first Lutheran church in our travels so far in Germany - Evang. Stiftspfarrei. Hooray!!! Apparently in 1522 Luther visited Wertheim, and convinced the townsfolk and the authorities that Protestantism was the way to go!! From then on, there has only been one Catholic church there, with the rest converting. It was very interesting to see the difference in the decoration of the interior compared to the Catholic churches we've seen + it was quite moving to be in a church where we were told he had been!! (there was a small statue of him at the back of the church, with lots of info that we couldn't read!!) So, although our trip to Coburg was foiled, we got a little bit of Lutheran history thrown in today!! It was fantastic and of course we took lots of photos. We are now aboard for about 24 hours as we make our way to Koblenz. The scenery along the river is amazing, with villages dotted along, gorgeous forests, children swimming along the banks, and as I write this, church bells ringing .... just beyond anything I'd imagined!!! Our network coverage has been erratic for days, so some of our latest posts have been delayed according to when we were able to get a window of service!! Look after each other. Xx
