it was hot and sunny when i was walking down this morning. The weathe forecast is for a maximum of 39degrees. The Australian Open has an extreme heat policy so when the temp gets over 35deg play is stopped, and the roof on Rold laver and Vodaphone arean is shut so play can still be playedd on these courts. When i first got in this morning i went to the garnier tent to get a free 5min massage but mainly to get the free goody bag at the end!! It was already so hot that 39deg seemed to believable.
I went to watch David Nalbandian play on Margaret Court and watch him lose the 1st two sets. After this it was soooooo hot that i went for a walk to see some other matches on the outside courts but play had been suspended on most of the courts and it was about 1pm. Federer, Mauresmo and Johansson were all out practising though. i went to Vodaphone arena to see if could watch the match there but it was an aussie guy so arena was packed and still a long queue of people trying to get in. So i went back to Margaret court where Nalbandian had just won the 3rd set. I watched the rest of the match but his opponent retired in the 5th due to the heat. This was the only outdoor match still playing. I am surprised that they didnt stop earlier and it must have been so tought playing in this heat. After this match finshed i went to join the queue in vodaphone arena as there was no other matches watch. Finally got a seat in there afer an hour and a half queuing as this was only because the aussis guy had lost the 5th set. But it was in time to see 1 and 1/2 sets of the Hingis game before i had to leave to get my bus back to Sydney.
In the paper the next day it said it reached 41.8deg at 4.30pm and play didnt resume on the outside courts until 8pm. And then the next day it rained!!!!
