Deborahs journey
i have spent the last three weeks in Berri in the riverland area of SA. i was mandarin picking the first week which wasnt as bad as i was expecting. The last two weeks i have worked for a couple doing some 'gardening' work with a dutch guy from the hostel. They treated u very well with morning and afternoon tea and a nice cooked dinner!! The hostel here is fantastic with a huge garden, pool, bbq area, treehouse, hammocks, tennis court, footie court, volleyball court, and patio area. There is also a small meditation room and small gym. Everyone congregates here after work and the weekends are sat lying about in the garden. Every second saturday the owner cooks a huge bbq with everyone sat around the large picnic tables enjoying the wine and the food. It normally turns into a party soon after. I can see why people get settled here and dont want to leave. You make friends with lots of people as you are all hanging out together. However the last week lots of people have left to move on to Adelaide or Alice Springs and feel it is now time to move on after doing a few weeks work... have many places to see and visit.
The area surrounding berri is full of vineyards and orchards with orange, madarin, lemon, olive trees everyw3here. it is a big fruit producing area. The Murray Rive runs along the bottom of the small town and when the sun is out (which is most days) looks fantastic. The climate here is fantastic and tomorrow is the last day of winter and is expected to be around 26 degrees!!!
