today was a day trip to Milford Sound, advertised as THE place to visit in NZ and the most beautiful place to go. We got picked up from Te Anau by the Kiwi exp bus at 9am (they left queenstown at 7) and drove towards MS. We got up early today so we could go on a walk through the Fiordland NP. we wanted to walk some of the Kepler track which takes 3-4 days to complette. we obviuosly were only going to do a small section of the track. after walking to the control gates of the dam the track begins through the forest and goes around the lake. it was a flat walk but was all the same scenary so wasnt the best views. we walked to Brod bay had some lunch here but it was really cold so so...

we got picked up at 9.30 and we went to Shearing world. this is a small museum about shearing sheep and showed a video on the world record holder shearing all the lambs was a strange little place. then we drove to Riverton where we stopped at a craft shop and made our own paua necklace. this involved choosing a piece of paua and drawing a shape. the guy cut this out and we sannded down the edges to finish it. 25th may i obviously wasnt used to having a proper dinner as i was nt very well today. however we had to leave Curio bay where it was really frosty very very cold and still dark so we could get to Invercargill by 8.30 for Moira and i to get a shuttle tobluff and the ferry to Stewart Island. luckily the bus ride was only an hour and just survived the journey!! From Dunedin we left and headed south through the Catlins to Curio bay right at the bottom right hand corner of the south island. THe catlins is mainly farm land and there are only a few small towns that we passed through. Its fairly flat with some hills and very green and reminded me of home.
