Day 3.Well, this morning was the adventure from London to Paris via Eurostar. Now, I was really looking forward to travelling on the Eurostar, not sure why, think it was to do with impressions of the journey I had in my mind of it being some kind of spaceship, light speed travelling, Dr who tardis, could I had been so wrong?Well, after collecting the tickets form St.Pancras we noticed that the seat arrangements was slightly strange, strange in the fact that we all were not sat together.Anyhow, that was that, now on to the important bit, the journey.
It's difficult to explain a situation that is totally beyond what you thought it would be, I guess this is what is known as disappointment.Tin, in, a, Sardines are words that come to mind. The coaches are cramped, luggage everywhere and germ ridden children coughing and spluttering at each end of the coach is not ideal, OH and some chappie snoring directly behind me, sounding more like a roaring lion than someone travelling on a train, was quite annoying for around 2 hrs, ah, that would be most of the journey then.
First impressions of Paris, maniac drivers!I'm not totally sure anyone on the road, whether it be a Car, Bus, Cycle or motorbike are actually truly capably of controlling, in a correct manner, their vehicle.Got a Taxi, after queuing around 10 minutes from Gare Du Nord, a simple task you would think, what could go wrong?Luggage placed in the boot, parents in the back of the Taxi, driver shuts boot on my head, what more could I ask for!! Next was one of the best but most hair-raising car journeys I have ever been on.Within the first 30 seconds of setting off from the Station we nearly squashed a cyclist between us and parked cars, knocked off a moped rider who cut in from the left and almost run up the arse of a leaner. All that a-side, the journey only cost €9.Happy times. It makes me realise just how good of a driver Jason Bourne actually is!!!
Hotel is OK, has a metro across the road from it, which gets us to most tourist attractions, what more could you ask for! Now, usually I'm pretty good at finding my way around 'foreign' places but I admit I was totally lost when entering the Metro at Porte Du Clichy. After several minutes of debating what was the correct way to buy a ticket, which nicely numbered and coloured line we needed, we asked the guy on the Hotel reception. With this information in hand, off we went to buy our tickets. €1.60 is all it costs to travel ALL day in Paris, this includes Bus, RER, Metro etc etc, this is very cheap to travel around one of the most popular cities in the world!!My first experience of the Metro was 'Metro 13' towards some French place, think it's called, Place Du Clichy.Stepping on to the train at Porte Du Clichy was like hitting a brick wall, except the usual bricks was replaced by people!Extremely busy but I suppose you can see why, it's cheap to travel and the trains seem very reliable.
First point of call was the Arc De Triomphee and surrounding area.Emerging from the Metro we were met with the beautiful sight that is the Arc De Triomphee and what a sight it is.Seeing it several times on TV I really didn't think that the site of the Tomb of The Unknown Solider was really that big.The architecture is absolutely fantastic and truly a sight to behold.Another site to behold is the Chanselise; do I really need to detail what I think of that?MANIC!You would be a brave man to take that one on!
Really, that's all we managed to fit in, sightseeing wise today. It's been a long day, with travelling, so a quick return to the Hotel was needed. Before our return, dinner was required.I have read and been warned about the prices of food here and I wasn't disappointed! The quality of the food did match the prices paid, which makes the expense not too bad at all!Back off to the hotel.
Sat in my hotel room writing this travel blog thinking I really must get some shut-eye.Got an early start in the morning, breakfast then straight in to the city.
Promise to write more tomorrow!
Laters y'all
