Today is the last full day of our holiday. We shall be on the plane all day tomorrow getting back to Melbourne.
It's another 40 degree day in Dubai, hazy with dust. We allow ourselves ony a very small breakfast. Must leave room for the Ultimate High Tea at the Burj Al-Arab - the world's only 7 star hotel.
The girls decide to swim at the Sheraton pool and shop in the Mall of the Emirates while we go the the Burj. They eventually spend up big at Victorias Secret.
Mariska arrive at the Burj at 1215pm and the whole hotel is opulent and unique.everything is gold and richly coloured. Because of Ramadan, the usual restaurants in the atrium and Skyview bar are closed. High tea is held one of the ballrooms at the top of the hotel on the 27th floor. We get up there early and there is no other patrons so we are allowed to walk around the dining room and take pictures from the scenic windows. Unfortunately the haziness makes it difficult for the cameras to pick out the Palms Jumeirah. It is obviously the off season as there are only about 10 people for the afternoon tea occupying 4 tables and we all get window seats. Mariska coped with her fear of heights. There was no alcohol allowed but we had as much sparkling date juice as we wanted including various teas and coffees. The servings were initially savoury foods and progressed to pastries and then scones with jams and clotted creams. I told them we were celebrating Mariska's 50th early and they took the trouble to make her a small cake and sang Happy Birthday to her and even gave her a boxed pen with Burj Al Arab on it. We were so full at the end tha all we could do was grab a taxi back to the Sheraton and have a good nap.
At 7pm we all went to the Dubai Mall. Yes, it is bigger than the Mall of the Emirates. It has an ice rink as well as an aquarium. There wasn't anything we could not get in Australia and were more expensive. Coffee was $7 AUD.
we get back to the Sheraton at 930pm and the girls go for a last minute swim before the pool closed.
