Elly & Cate go to Euro Disney. This meant a very early breakfast & taxi ride to the tour office for 8am bus.
Mariska & I have a guided tour of the Louvre at 930. Took a walk in the courtyard & the pyramids. So interesting to see the various statues of famous people through history up there along the walls of the Louvre. Saw many interesting artworks & sculptures by famous artists. Saw the winged goddess, the inspiration for the Nike swoop.
Had to pick another fight with the dreaded mainland Chinese again - so rude. I actually bumped one of the chestpack wearing rich peasants out of the way, made me feel better.
We were told we would need 3 months to see every exhibit. I have unfinished business here.
The tour finished at 12 & by now it was 38 outside and Mariska had had enough. She wouldn't come with me across the Seine to the Musee D'Orsay. She later admitted that she went to McDonald's in the Louvre complex and fell asleep in one of their reclining chairs.
I braved the heat & inspected the Musee d'orsay. So much modern art from so many modern masters. So impressed...... and literally very few mainland Chinese... Yay.
Met back with Mariska who had finished her nap by now. We had 4 hours to kill before the girls came back from Euro Disney. We walked around the Louvre complex, headed to galleries Lafayette and bought my yellow jersey for the tour de France. I had to buy mine, will never win one.
Picked up the girls at 8 pm on their return from euro Disney. They were very tired.
We took the metro back to the hotel. My activity watch tells me that I have walked 20 km today.
Tonight we also learn that Charlie is very ill. He is Mariska's 17 year old shihtzu pomeranian cross. We already know that he has cancer and has very likely got bowel obstruction. He will be destroyed tomorrow. Mariska is very emotional, he was part of her life for 17 years.
