David Holmes's Travels
After a 14.5 hour journey we arrived at Siem Reap at 8pm. Anna slept all the way from Amsterdam to Delhi which is not bad! James complaining about not sleeping but spent most of the flight stretched out across 3 seats including mine with no sign of movement.
We were met at the airport by a friendly member of the hotel staff who took us to a very smart vehicle and offered us cold towels and drinks of water from a cool box. Same service again when we arrived at hotel 5 mins later. James still wearing both towels round his neck to stay cool in 30 degree heat. Humidity also very high and a bit of a shock after leaving freezing London.
Sinn the building manager was also at the hotel to meet us. He wanted to meet us and make sure we are ready tomorrow for an early start on the project. He says they have nearly finished a house and just needs someone to put the roof and walls on. He seems to think James and I are the men for the job.
Decided to go for an early dinner and straight to bed. James just had a light half-pound steak to settle his stomach having eaten nothing for 16 hours.
Locals are so polite and friendly Anna is unsure how to respond. They are Incredibly hospitable though and make you feel right at home. Awesome room/suite as well. Bigger than our own home! They also have an Olympic sized pool and a gym. We are hardly roughing it. Looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow at the village. We are getting Tuk-tuk at 7 so had better get some sleep.
