Sometimes getting somewhere is half the fun. Took the public train from Hanoi to Ninh Binh, which is a whole different world to taking the tourist trains. But I managed to find an English couple so I sat next to them and swapped Hanoi stories and all was good. Got to Ninh Binh and my hotel and then headed out to have a few beers with the locals. Ended up getting shouted beers by a friendly guy who seemed to be the town drunk (we got on well) but had to escape back to the hotel and rest up for some sightseeing the next day. Originally planned on a bicycle tour of Ninh Binh but changed to a motorbike after finding out it was 30km (not in this heat!). It was just me and the guide so I jumped on the back of his bike and off we went. Saw heaps of interesting sights but the highlight was the Tam Coc caves. I shared the boat with an American girl who was also traveling Vietnam solo but from south to north so I got a bit of advice on the places I'm heading to. And I also passed by the boat of some french women I shared a cabin with on the train back from Sa Pa. Crazy how you bump into people again! Got back to the hotel around 4pm and just having a rest before catching the overnight bus to Hue at 9pm. Photos coming soon!
