Our Year of Adventure
Our hotel was right in the centre of city so it only took a few steps before we were in George Square being overlooked by the towering City Hall. We had a quick breakfast in a nearby cafe and by the time we finished the sun had came out - quite rare in Glasgow!!
We walked up the High Street to the medieval Glasgow Cathedral, the only cathedral in Scotland to survive the Reformation. Next door is the Necropolis, a Victorian cemetery with very ornate monuments and headstones.
We headed further into the East End of Glasgow to the Tennants Brewery. It was too early for the tour but we got to look around the exhibition room and knew we could sample the beer at a number of pubs and bars around the city later in the day. Walking back into the city centre we passed the famous Barrowland concert hall and 'The Barras' market - the market, like all the other attractions in Scotland, was closed (it is only open at weekends).
We had lunch at Barca, a tapas and cava restaurant, in the upmarket Princes Square mall - very nice and cheap due to the great lunch deal!! The remainder of the afternoon was spent browsing through the shoppings streets and malls, Maria was in her element. We needed to rest our legs and David decided on the Horseshoe Bar - famous for the length of the actual bar and that the band Travis used to play there before becoming famous. Dinner and cocktail at TGI Fridays finished off a great day.
