Our Year of Adventure
The day started with the usual breakfast from the bakery next door - croissants, empanadas and coffee. David wanted to see theTicos play England so while he did that, Maria did some research on Colombia.
After the game, we went to the Multiplaza mall, the bigger of the closest malls. Maria managed to buy some new clothes today so that put a smile on her face.
The Colombia-Japan game was being shown everywhere in mall, virtually every shop has a TV and there are screens randomly throughout the mall. There is even a huge screen in the food court which can be seen from various points in all three levels of the mall. As we walked through the mall it was busy but quiet, everyone was concentrating on the football. When Colombia scored the whole mall erupted into huge cheers, it was crazy.
The Colombians won the game 4-1 which put them through to the next round...and they were very pleased about that. So much so that they decided to have processions down the street with convoys of cars, their passengers hanging out windows screaming, and horns blaring. The bars around Via Argentina were just as chaotic, it was a sea of yellow, singing and dancing. If we weren't getting up early tomorrow morning then we might have just joined in. Or maybe we wait until Colombia's next game on Saturday when we will actually be in the country...
