Our Year of Adventure
We decided to have a lazy day and sort out future travel plans and write the blog, it is quite a few days behind. Having a late start turned out not to be the best move when it came to breakfast. There was only one table for breakfast and a German family of six were already seated although just finishing off. Instead of waiting until they vacated the table (which they were in no rush to do because they were discussing what to do that day), we had our breakfast served on a small picnic table outside next to the mops and rubbish bins. Big black mark will be put in their accommodation review.
We went to get money from ATM but had to wait while guards refilled machine. Maria played with a kitten in the next door hardware store while we waited. The guard with the pump action shotgun was interested and started watching instead of watching the bank. He even went to find stick for Maria to play with the kitten.
It took ages to fill the ATM and a small child chased the kitten away so we decided to get a coffee. We were given free samples of merangue, dulce de leche and coffee cookies while our coffee was being made. Everything was delicious but sold in such big portions it wouldn't be easy for us to eat (without being sick).
We took a walk down the road to the east towards coffee farms. They were too far away to walk to but we had been told it was a very scenic road...and it was. After 45 minutes we turned around and headed back, we still had some work to do for our travels.
We booked our trip to Galapagos - we'll leave on 20th July for an 8 day cruise on Yacht Angelito. Searching for accomodation in Bogota was less successful and we decided to get something to eat in the meantime.
'Brunch' was an American style eatery around the corner from us so that made for an easy choice. When we arrived, David asked if they were showing the football because unusually there was no TV screen to be seen. They had a back room with sofas and a projector, so we moved through to it to watch the game in a big screen. The burgers were awesome - really tasty and filling.
Afterwards, we went for drink in Bar Danubio, a bar full of stereo-typical cowboys drinking heaps of beers, playing cards & dominoes and a game called 'billiar carambola libre', which was a bit like billiards but the table had no pockets. We met up again with an Aussie girl we spoke with on the tramp yesterday. She had already spent 4 months in South America and gave us some good tips for Bolivia & Peru.
