We got back to Airlie yesterday after a really lovely couple of days on the SV WhiteHaven sailing boat cruising round the Whitsunday islands. We got on the boat Sunday lunch time and met the crew, Captain Pete, Jai the deckhand and James (from Winchester) who was the cook and general deckhand. These guys were really lovely and made us feel at home right away. We got sailing to our first spot which was a little reef which we snorkelled on, the visibility wasnt great but there were lots of different corals and fish. We then sailed to a little bay where we spent the night.
The next morning we went to a second snorkel spot which was far better than the first and was on par with the Great Barrier Reef trip we did from Port Douglas. The fact that i swam over a group of box jelly fish to get there was worth it! We then went to WhiteHaven Beach which was really special. Incredible views from the lookout and a nice little "bushwalk" down to the beach. We spotted baby sharks and stingrays in the shallows and did abit of sunbathing. Once we got back on the boat we saw some turtles and Dugongs before heading back out to another bay to sleep.
So far today we went for a drink with some of the people we met in Mission Beach who we randomly saw here while in a nice shop! Now we're sat waiting for our washing to finish before some lovely looking fish and chips for dinner.
Tommorrow we head down to the town of 1770 which should be nice, there for 2 nights and hopefully will get some bodyboarding/ surfing in :)
We'll keep you posted,
David and Laura
