Back to normal Norway! The fjords. Bergen was busy and wet and the campsite was... scary. Especially when some random trick driver walked into our hut by mistake. Ben likened the thought of having a shower there to the scene in Alien3 where Ripley takes a shower.
So we took a drive to Hardangerfjord and everywhere was shut for the national holiday, including our campsite. Luckily next door was an overnight hostel which cost the same as a hut at Sundal Camping but the whole place is indoors with a real Norwegian guy serving you and asking you what time you want breakfast in the morning. Boom!
Today we took the toll road and the Folgefonntunnelen (11km) to Odda, a town with everything we needed. Shut of course. However we got to see some Constitution Day festivities. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was dressed up in their ceremonial garb as if the whole nation was graduating today. It was beautiful - the men in suits and the women in traditional black, white and red garments that had hints if gold lacing. The garments are called Gákti and are worn by the native Sámi people. In two years it will be The bicentenary of Norway being independent of Denmark - a country Ølaf referred to as being cocky. Although he had a thing about Germany too.
Tonight I needed some time to chill out away from the car and the travelling and sightseeing and get my head into my book - The Knife Of Never Letting Go - the first in the Chaos Walking trilogy. Kind of like The Hobbit for the modern day teen. Proud that I'm getting my way through my second novel of the year and about to start my third.
Financial fail of the day:
£15.60 (£7.80 each way) to use A ROAD.
