Finally better weather in Mt Gambier. Time to get out on the bikes and explore even though it was still cold and threatening rain. We can't go away on a year's trip and not expect to get some bad weather. We have chosen to go on bikes so we have to still do the things we want.
It was a bit easier to go 2 up on the Honda if the weather could turn bad. First stop as one should in Mt Gambier is its famous Blue Lake. It is only blue at certain times of the year and we were in luck. Beautiful blue water in the old volcanic crater. We took the easy way out and did the full circumference on the bike instead of walking. After that it was on to Centenary Tower perched high on the rim of Crater Lake which also encompasses Brown lake and Leg Of Mutton Lake. The walk up to Centenary Tower was a 1 in 4 gradient and Trish got to test out her hiking poles. Looking like a sherpa ready to take Hillary to the top of Everest she huffed and puffed her way to the top.
Mt Gambier has many sinkholes, where underground limestone caverns have caved in and left large crater like holes, several of these have been planted out with very pretty gardens that you can walk down into. We visited Umperstone sinkhole.
We received a wonderful letter from our Grandaughter Rebecca. It came via a photo attached to a txt mesage. It is so great to receive mesages from home. More please!
